K-Box in Singapore

Pic. From the movie "Lost in translation"

Yesterday I joined in for the K-Box with some guys and gals from the floorball team to sing karaoke. This is how it works. You rent one big room, squeeze in about 15-20 people and start singing. Included in the rent is free snacks a huge database of songs (english and cantonese) as well as microphones. On top of that you can order food and drinks. After a while some started to play cards while the other one where singing and people were dropping in and out of the place randomly. Shyness is not a common thing around these events. Everybody is contributing no matter how much out of tune you are singing and mics are randomly picked up and songs are changed even though they are only halfway through.
So did I have a "Lost in translation feeling". Not really, it was a great evening and I would enjoy to be able to rent a K-box room in Sweden. The cult around cantoneese pop stars and the chineese hit songs though where slightly alientaing to me. I guess it would be the same for a chineese in a room of swedes singing favourites by Lundell, Taube, Vreesjwiik and Winnerbeck. But that will be the day I guess. Anyhow, My own singing contributions where:
  1. Neil Young - "Heart of Gold" (This was little of an anticlimax, no one know Neil Young or had heard the original song, besides that the song was realy slow and I sang out of tune)
  2. ABBA - "Dancing Queen" (This song worked better and with some support from the others it turned out pretty succesfull.)
  3. La Bamba (I dont know who made this song but it was dam good live in the KTV)
Have a nice weekend and merry christmas to you all !!

Hans

Har bara sjungit Karaoke en enda gång. På nån restaurang i Göteborg. Minns att jag och en viss Martin N sjöng Oa hela natten och det lär inte ha låtit bra.

God Jul och Gott Nytt År,
Martin
